Spicy Garlic Hummus

A little chili crunch garlic twist on your classic hummus. This recipe can be made without the spice and garlic, too. I will let you know how below. Use this lovely chickpea and tahini based recipe as a dip or a smear and don't forget to get creative!!! One of my favorite ways to enjoy this is on a piece of toast with eggs in the morning :)

Ingredients:

4 cups

  • (2) 15 oz. cans of chickpeas/garbanzo beans (drained)

  • 4 cloves of garlic

  • 1/2 cup tahini

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

  • 1 tsp + 1/8 tsp cumin

  • 1/8 tsp salt (+more depending on your liking)

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 2 tbsp or 1/8 cup of chili crunch oil

  • 2 tbsp or 1/8 cup of olive oil

    Substitutions:

    • for more spicy, do 1/4 cup of chili crunch oil and no olive oil.

    • for no spicy: do 1/4 cup olive oil

    • too much garlic? use only 1 clove or none, but won't taste as good

Instructions:

  1. Add all of your ingredients to a mixer. Pulse until slightly smooth. Scrape down the sides with a spatula and begin to pulse until completely smooth. If the hummus is not smooth enough or mixing, add more water 1 tsp at a time.

  2. Serve with a drizzle of chili crunch oil and enjoy :)

Tips

  • If you want to add more flavor it, add some seasonings on top when serving it. Try everything seasoning, drizzle of hot honey or plain honey, za'atar seasoning, red roasted peppers, chopped tomatoes, dill pickle relish, chili crunch oil, plain olive oil, etc. Drizzle with the creative seasoning if serving it!

  • If you want to make the chickpeas from dried beans: soak 2 cups of dried chickpeas in a bowl with cold water for 12 hours. Drain and wash. Place them in a pot and cover with cold water about 2 inches above the chickpeas and 1 tsp baking soda and mix. Bring to a boil and stir. Put the heat down to medium low and simmer for 1 hour. Make sure to stir every so often. Cook until the chickpeas are soft. Check by squeezing between your fingers. Drain and remove shells as much as possible and then follow the rest of the recipe!

  • Store in an air tight container for a week.
